Chimney Cap Repair

A cap that’s bent, loose, or rusted through is barely better than no cap: rain gets past it, screens tear open for birds, and a Texas storm can send it across the yard. Most cap problems are a fast, inexpensive repair — if they’re caught before the water damage starts.

What we fix on a service call

Loose caps get refastened with proper anchors (not the rusted screws that backed out), bent hoods get reformed or replaced, torn screens get re-meshed, and clogged spark-arrestor screens get cleared — a screen blocked by soot chokes your draft as badly as a nest does.

Repair or replace — the honest line

Galvanized caps that are rusting through get replacement quotes, not repair bills; putting labor into rusted steel wastes your money. Stainless and copper caps are almost always worth repairing. We tell you which side of the line yours is on, with photos.

Common Questions

My cap whistles in wind — fixable?

Usually yes: it’s either a loose hood vibrating or wind crossing a torn screen edge. Both are quick fixes.

The cap blew off in a storm. Is that a repair?

If the cap survived, refitting with proper anchors is routine — and we check why it failed (wrong size or bad fastening). If it’s damaged, a correctly fitted replacement won’t leave in the next storm.
