Gas Logs Installation — Vented & Ventless

Gas logs are the no-regrets upgrade for a wood fireplace you love but never light: the look of a real fire, none of the hauling, ash, or 11 PM ember-watch. The vented-vs-ventless choice is the whole decision — and it deserves an honest explainer.

Vented: the realistic one

Vented sets burn with tall, lazy, wood-like flames — the realism pick — and exhaust up your existing flue with the damper open. They’re the right call for regular ambiance in a sound chimney. Trade-off: some heat leaves with the exhaust, just like a wood fire.

Ventless: the heat machine — with rules

Ventless sets burn at near-total efficiency with the damper closed: the heat stays in the room, which is the point. The trade-offs are real: smaller blue-tipped flames, moisture released indoors, an oxygen-depletion sensor as mandatory equipment, and room-size minimums that are code, not suggestions. We size and place them strictly to spec — or we recommend vented, and tell you why.

Either way, installed like gas deserves

Correct log placement (it sets the flame pattern and prevents sooting), leak-tested connections, damper stop or closure as required, and a full burn-in before handoff.

Common Questions

Which looks more real — vented or ventless?

Vented, clearly: bigger, taller, more random flames. Ventless trades realism for heat efficiency. Your priority decides — we’ll show you both burning before you choose.

Are ventless logs safe?

Installed strictly to spec — right room size, working ODS, correct placement — they have a long safety record. Installed casually, they’re the gas appliance most worth worrying about. That’s the honest answer, and it’s why sizing rules are non-negotiable with us.

Can I switch my wood fireplace back after gas logs?

With vented logs, yes — remove the set and the fireplace returns to wood service after an inspection. Ventless conversions are also reversible, with damper hardware restored.
