Chimney Framing Rebuild

Inside every sided chimney chase is a wooden tower — studs, plates, sheathing — doing structural duty in the dark. When a failed cover or flashing feeds it water for a few years, the skeleton rots quietly until the chase visibly sags, leans, or goes soft.

Rebuilt from sound wood out

We strip the cladding, demo framing to solid material, and rebuild the tower: treated plates where moisture exposure recurs, studs sistered or replaced, fresh sheathing, weather wrap, then siding. The flue stays supported and protected throughout — rebuilt around, never leaned on.

Killing the cause is half the scope

Chase framing doesn’t rot on its own; something fed it. The rebuild always closes the source — stainless chase cover, sealed penetrations, kick-out flashing at the roof junction — because new wood with the old leak is just slower-motion failure.

Common Questions

How do I know the framing inside is bad?

Soft siding, a chase that flexes under hand pressure, visible waviness, or a cover that’s been leaking for years are the signs. A probe inspection settles it without major opening.

Does rebuilding the chase disturb the fireplace below?

No — the work is in the tower above. We keep the unit and flue protected, and you keep using the fireplace through everything except the top-out days.
