Gas Fireplace Repair
A gas fireplace that clicks but won’t light, lights and dies, or burns lazy orange instead of crisp blue-tipped flames is telling you exactly what’s wrong — if the person listening works on them every week. We do.
Diagnosis before parts
The usual suspects line up in order: thermocouple or thermopile not holding the valve open, a pilot orifice clogged with dust and spider webs (genuinely — it’s a Texas classic), a failing gas valve, or a wall-switch circuit problem masquerading as all three. We test in sequence and replace what failed — not the whole assembly on a hunch.
Burning right, not just burning
Lazy yellow flames and soot on the glass mean incomplete combustion — wrong air mixture, misplaced logs, or a blocked burner port. Beyond ugly, it’s how carbon monoxide gets made. We restore the burn pattern to spec and verify venting while we’re in there.
The Gas Visit
- Ignition diagnosis: pilot, thermocouple, thermopile
- Gas valve testing and replacement
- Burner and orifice cleaning
- Log placement and flame pattern correction
- Combustion safety and vent check
Common Questions
Pilot lights but the main burner won't come on. What is it?
Classic thermopile weakness — it generates just enough for the pilot circuit but not the main valve. A 15-minute test confirms; replacement is inexpensive.
Soot keeps coating the glass. Normal?
No. Soot means incomplete combustion — usually logs placed out of position or a starved air mixture. Quick correction, and worth doing for more than looks.
