Pilot Light Installation

A pilot kit is the small upgrade that civilizes a gas fireplace: flame-failure safety (the gas shuts itself off if the flame dies) and the wiring hooks that make remotes and wall switches possible.

Safety first, convenience included

On a match-lit burner, gas flows whenever the key is open — whether or not a flame is burning. A safety pilot adds a thermocouple-held valve: flame out, gas off, automatically. The same kit is what lets a remote or wall switch operate the fireplace, so the safety upgrade and the convenience upgrade are the same part.

Millivolt or electronic

Classic millivolt pilots stand a small flame that self-powers the valve — simple, battery-free, works in a power cut. Electronic ignition sparks the pilot on demand and burns nothing between fires. We’ll match the system to how often you burn and how you want to control it.

Common Questions

My fireplace is match-lit. Is that actually unsafe?

It’s code-legal but unforgiving: a blown-out flame with the key open keeps flowing gas. The safety pilot removes exactly that failure mode — it’s the single best upgrade for an older gas fireplace.

Pilot keeps going out — install a new one?

Maybe just a repair: a weak thermocouple or dirty pilot orifice causes most dropouts. We diagnose first; if the burner deserves a modern kit, we’ll say so with prices for both paths.
